Healthy Living Habits

Why Healthy Living Habits Matter

Your eyes and ‘heart’ (the inner self comprising mind, will and emotions) are all connected to your body. If your body is weak, tired, or neglected, both your physical and spiritual sight will suffer. Healthy living habits strengthen your body, protect your eyes, and give your heart the clarity it needs to reflect, discern spiritual realities and focus on God.

Healthy living habits,

  • Maintain physical eye health through good nutrition, regular exercise, and adequate sleep. Nutritious meals and regular exercise help the eyes get the essential nutrients and oxygen they need to function well, while quality sleep relieves eyestrain and restores worn-out tissues.
  • Support mental clarity by reducing daily stress and anxiety, so your mind has space to focus, reflect, and make intentional choices.
  • Helps you fulfil your purpose by keeping your body healthy and free of conditions that can prevent you from doing what God created you to do.

How to Practice Healthy Living Habits

  • Eat healthy, balanced meals and drink enough water daily. Eat foods that are rich in essential eye nutrients (vitamins A, C and E, zinc, omega-3 fatty acids, lutein and zeaxanthin), such as green leafy vegetables, whole grains, oily fish, nuts, eggs and fruits. Drink at least 2 litres of water daily..
  • Sleep well every day. Ensure you get 6 to 8 hours of restful sleep at night. To do this, you need to schedule your sleep ahead. Also, stop activities that can disrupt your sleep
  • Exercise regularly to stay active, improve circulation and nutrient supply, reduce stress, and keep your body, mind and heart strong.
  • Reduce stress. From time to time, take intentional breaks from work and screen to relax, reduce unnecessary busyness and create moments where you stay still and reflect, practice gratitude and spend time in prayer and study of the scriptures instead of worrying.
